Angkor, Shoe root, Ta Prohm

The trees growing out of the ruins are perhaps the most distinctive feature of Ta Prohm, and 'have prompted more writers to descriptive excess than any other feature of Angkor.' Some species predominate: silk-cotton tree (Ceiba pentandra) or thitpok Tetrameles nudiflora, fig (Ficus gibbosa) or Gold Apple (Diospyros decandra). In this photo is the roots having the shape of a shoe climbing over the clay-brick wall in Ta Prohm, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
