The church was built on 3th, december 1900 on the Saint Francisco Javier mass, so the church has the name Nhà thờ Thánh Saint Francisco Javier. The church was opened on 10th, January 1902 by the first vicar Pierre d'Assou (Chinese name Tam An Su or Đàm Á Tố, Vietnamese speaking Cha Tam). So it has another name Cha Tam church. Cha Tam church, where Ngo Dinh Diem and Ngo Dinh Nhu had been praying for the last time before their were assassinated in 1963.
