Statue of Quan am bo tat and bodhi tree, Giac Lam Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh City - Next to the tree is a regular feature of Vietnamese Buddhist temples, a gleaming white statue of Quan The Am Bo Tat (Avalokitesvara, the goddess of mercy) standing on a lotus blossom, a symbol of purity and under a tall and healthy bodhi tree. The tree present in the garden was brought to Vietnam from Sri Lanka by the famous 20th Sinhalese Theravada Buddhist monk Narada in 1953.
