In 1964, two monks Thích Tâm Giác and Thích Thanh Kiểm came to South Vietnam from North Vietnam to spread Buddhism and had Vinh Nghiem Pagoda built. They adopted the version of design from a wooden namesake pagoda in Đức La Village, Trí Yên Commune, Tạng Giang County, Bắc Giang Province, which was built from the Ly Dynasty, king Lý Thái Tổ. The village used to be a center for teaching and spreading of branch of Buddhism of Trúc Lâm. Vinh Nghiem Pagoda was constructed between 1964 and 1971 following the design of architect Nguyen Ba Lang and engineer Bui Van To.
