View of the Monument of John Batman, who was born at Parramatta NSW 1800 and died at Melborne in 1839. He entered Port Philip Heads in May 1835 as the leader of an expedition which he had organised in Launcestone VDL to form a settlement and founded on the site of Melbourne then unoccupied.
