Château de Paphos, View

View of Paphos Castle. The remains of the tower, incorporated into the Ottoman building, belonged to one of two towers erected by the Frankish rulers of Cyprus, after the destructive earthquake of 1222 A.D. The two towers were interconnected by a curtain wall. When the Genoese captured the fort in 1373 A.D., they raised the height of its walls and shaped the moat, simply by cutting part of the mole which provides access from the seaward tower to the shore.
