Basilique Saint-Jean d'Éphèse, Gate

Walls were built around the church for protection against the Arab raids in the 7th century. The church area can be entered through the gate on the south called the Pursuit Gate, which was guarded by two tall towers. On the inner side is a narrow courtyard called the atrium.
