Éphèse, Church of the Virgin Mary

The Church of the Virgin Mary is famed for being the first church built for the Virgin Mary in Asia. It is also called the Council Church. The Ecumenical Council of 431 was held in this church. During the reign of Justanian the church was altered and on the exact site a smaller but domed church was built. Ephesus, Turkey.
