Éphèse, Prytaneion

The Prytaneion was also called the municipality building, and the executive council ruling Ephesus had their meetings here and received their official guests. The Prytaneion with its façade of six thick columns, had the aspect of a temple with the perpetual holy fire in the middle of the building. The two Artemis statues, Artemis of Ephesus and Artemis the Beautiful were found here and now on display in the Museum of Ephesus.
