Priène, Sanctuary of Athena

In the 4th cent B.C. the architect Pytheos designed the largest temple in the city for its patron deity, Athena Polia. Initial construction work was supported by Alexander the Great, but it was not completed until the reign of the Emperor Augustus (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), who was now honoured alongside Athena.
