Kirkbampton, St Peters church

St Peters church dates from Norman times and is a Grade I listed building. It was restored in 1882. The north and south doorways are original, as are two small round-headed windows. The east window is contributed to Morris, Burne-Jones and Co. The chancel walls have stones purloined from Hadrians wall. The Norman chancel arch sits on responds with scallop capitals. The most famous feature of the church is its sculptured tympanum. The church has a leper squint, or dole window. This was used by the priest to hand out doles to the lepers and for the lepers to see the service - Kirkbampton, Cumbria, England.
