Cemetery in Warta in the region of Sieradz, Poland. Symbolic tomb and table with his name. Major pilot Stanislaw Skarzynski was born in 1899 in Warta. In 1933, as the first polish man, he flew over the Atlantic Ocean alone, from Senegal to Brasil on the smallest (ever!) airplane RWD 5bis. This airplane was build by polish constructors. In 1936, for this great aviation achievement, Skarzynski was awarded by FAI (Federation Aeronautique Internationale) with Louis Bleriot Medal. Skarzynski died in 1942 when he was coming back to England after the heavy bomb attack on Bremen (Germany) on June the 26, 1942.
