Romantic sunset in the Tangier bay. Tangier (Berber: Tanja; Arabic: طنچة) is a Moroccan port city located near the Straight of Gibraltar. It was originally an ancient Phoenician trading post, and later became a Carthaginian and then a Roman settlement. After five centuries of Roman rule, it was captured successively by the Vandals, Byzantines, and Arabs.
